How to Solve a Square-1

The route to a solved puzzle

A wide corner equals two units and a narrow edge equals one. Never perform / when the slice is blocked.

Read the notation

In (a,b), the first number turns the top and the second turns the bottom in 30-degree units. The / symbol turns the slice by 180 degrees.

Restore cube shape

Group narrow edges and wide corners until each layer alternates four corners with four edges.

Orient the corners

Create a single-colored top and bottom face, even if the corners are not yet in their correct side positions.

Orient the edges

Move every top-color edge to the top and every bottom-color edge to the bottom.

Permute corners and edges

Cycle pieces in groups, first the corners and then the edges, preserving cube shape between sequences.

Recognize parity

If only two edges remain swapped, you have a legal Square-1 parity case. Use the parity algorithm that matches the visible case.
